The Message of Christianity

This is in response to a question (below) that I received.
“If you were to ask the average Christian sitting in a worship service on Sunday morning to summarize the message of Christianity, you would most likely hear something along the lines of . . . Ā ‘The message of Christianity is that God loves me enough to send his Son, Jesus, to die for me.’
… The message of biblical Christianity is ‘God loves me so that I might make him–his ways, his salvation, his glory, and his greatness–known among all nations.” (p. 70)
Radical: Taking back your faith from the American dream by David Platt
Ā
What do you think?

Profound thought. I think it is easy to get caught up in the average understanding. But I think really that that average thought is really only the gospel message. Don’t get me wrong, the gospel is the immediate need and very important! However, as Platt assesses, there is more to biblical Christianity than just the gospel. It is a Christian’s duty to spill over and give generously all that God has given him/her. So because God loves a Christian, the Christian should love others as he/she loves him/herself. Because God cleans a Christian of his/her sins, His cleansing makes it possible for the Christian to do good. Therefore, God shared it, a Christian should share it (in a way that is loving). God is great and amazingly glorious and has shown it to the Christian. A Christian should tell others of this amazing God.
I would say that ‘The message of Christianity is that God loves me enough to send his Son, Jesus, to die for me.’Ā  is the gospel message, andĀ God loves me so that I might make him–his ways, his salvation, his glory, and his greatness–known among all nations.” is the biblical message that incorporates the gospel.

Judging

This post is in response to one of my followers who asked this question:

“Here is one that came up at our Bible study tonight: is it right to judge someone when they are being prideful or arrogant? We looked at Romans 14:1-13 and 1 Corinthians 5:1-3 to try to find out. I couldnā€™t find out.”

Well, this is a tough one. I think that a sin as pride is a very small but active sin (James4:161 John 2:16). It is one of the sins that is the root of other sins. I think it is appropriate to reprimandĀ another for being prideful, but only after you haveĀ  taken the pride out of your own heart (Luke 6:42).Ā  If someone is being prideful in a way that could hurt themselves, or worse, others, I think it is appropriate to talk to them about it. However, do it gently. Who likes to be told they are doing something wrong?

What this site is about

This blogsite is meant for the learning of the world’s biggest most important questions. Why do I exist as a person? Is there a God? Why is there evil and suffering or is there? What is the nature of man? What happens to me when I die? What is the Nature of the Universe? What or Who is the basis for right and wrong? Did Jesus exist? Is the Bible reliable? and more. Subtopics like politics will also be discussed, as, in my opinion, the most important election is going on (the Republican primaries and the future president).
